Shower Doorway - Keyhole

Aztec Ruins National Monument Inspires Shower Doorway

We visited Aztec Ruins National Monument in November 2017. The weather was incredible and the beauty and solace of the site was amazing. While we were there, we noticed several "keyhole" doorways:

The unusual shape immediately drew our attention and we were fascinated by it. Why would someone make a door shaped like this? Was there a purpose or was it purely decorative?

Inspired by the "keyhole" doorways of the Ancestral Puebloans, we decided to incorporate the same design in our shower doorway.

We trimmed the outer shower "wall" with the same yellow formica as what's in the bathroom. The front "wall" is made of cedar, which is naturally water repellent. We also added several coats of sealant to the wood for protection. Waterproof LED light strips on the inside of the front "wall" provide illumination without taking up valuable space.
